Dad drove until he was 92 and had an accident while driving into the setting sun one block away from the house. Two teenagers were trying to jump start a car. When Dad hit the rear end of the first car it pinned the kid against the other car. His car wasn’t worth fixing (“totaled”) because it was over 10 years old. I tried to take his keys away that day, but he threw a fit. Without a car I did not give him permission to drive my car which I bought when I went to take care of Mom. He was trying to buy a car in the meantime, but never followed through. Riding in the back seat of the car when he was 91 was too scary for me. I placed a tracker in his car so we would know exactly where he was. He usually drove a straight route back and forth and didn’t go more than 5 miles from home. Mom stopped driving in her 80s after having too many minor accidents within a year.
